In Afghanistan, 3.9 million girls and women have been barred from attending secondary schools for three consecutive years now, while the number of those who are denied the right to pursue their higher education remains unknown. The Alekain Foundation aims to provide these girls and women with quality-accredited online high school education and create pathways to graduate, obtain their diplomas, and pursue their education at the college level and beyond.
In Afghanistan
Since 2021, the Taliban have issued decrees barring girls over 12 from education, including private schools. In response, activists have created underground and online schools. However, many lack a pathway for girls to earn accredited credentials and pursue college education.

The Alekain Foundation works to provide girls and women from Afghanistan with a quality-accredited secondary education, helps them thrive academically, personally and emotionally, creates and enlightens their pathways for graduation, earning a diploma and pursuing their education at a college level and beyond.

Each year, Alekain will recruit and place at least 10 girls into Smart Schools International and provide them with quality-accredited secondary education.
