Joan Lowell

Joan Lowell is an Academic Associate in the Entrepreneurship and Innovation program at Arizona State University, serving students, faculty, anwhatd community members.

Joan has served on multiple boards of directors of nonprofits and family foundations, addressing education, homelessness, healthcare, and refugee settlement. She currently is a board member for three nonprofits and two family foundations. Joan has held leadership positions in the nonprofit sector for over 30 years.

She served as Executive Director of Hospice of the Valley from 1983 to 1994. In addition, she was president of the Hospice Association of America and on the board of the National Association for Homecare. She left these positions in 1994 to pursue her dream of being a Peace Corps Volunteer. She served in Kazakhstan as a business and NGO advisor. She continued this work on short-term assignments in Arizona, Russia, Ukraine, Thailand, Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania.

Upon her return from the Peace Corps, Joan served as Senior Advancement Officer for Donor Services for the Arizona Community Foundation until 2007. She worked closely with donors, helping them connect their interests, passions, and resources to the community’s needs.
Joan has been published in Newsweek, the Phoenix Business Journal, and the Prescott Courier. She holds a BA from Queens College, N.Y., an M.S. from Adelphi University, N.Y., and an M.P.A from ASU.
