Ms. Buchanan has over 17 years of experience managing complex international education projects. Her areas of technical expertise include scholarship management and recruitment, English language acquisition, curriculum development, teacher training, and participant-based programming.

She brings expertise in strategic planning, business development, grants management, financial oversight, partnership development and oversight, compliance, organizational representation, and participant and staff safeguarding.

Ms. Buchanan currently serves as the Director of Academic Programs at FHI 360 in the Global Connections department, where she plays a critical role in managing higher education and scholarship initiatives on behalf of the U.S. Department of State Bureaus and Embassies.

She has demonstrated an exceptional record of directing initiatives in complex operating environments, such as Afghanistan and Iraq, ensuring program quality while prioritizing participant, consultant, and staff safety. From 2015 to 2019, her work focused on supporting higher education in Afghanistan by establishing over 20 university partnerships between American and Afghan academic departments, including 22 MA and Ph.D. scholarships for Afghan faculty members.
